Overview

Potholing TruckThe City of Bloomington is conducting a Water Service Line Inventory. Part of the inventory is determining the material of the privately-owned portion (customer-owned portion) of the service line, which is typically the line between the curb stop and the house. City staff will be potholing properties to update the City's water service line inventory.

Potholing uses hydro evacuation, high-pressure water and a vacuum, to remove soil without breaking manmade structures to create two 12-inch holes to look at service lines and determine what material it is. The City will be backfilling the holes after the excavation is complete.

More information is provided in the below video. If you have any questions, please contact us at water@cityblm.org or call 309-434-2400 during regular business hours.
